SHAREaLOOK plants trees - reduce your environmental footprint

65 Trees planted thanks to our community!

Did you know that it is extremely easy to reduce your fashion carbon footprint? We contacted One Tree Planted, a non-profit organization that helps individuals and companies to plant trees and we are going to share with you some facts...
.
The procedure was completed in less than one week. Now, we have already planted 65 new trees!

A tree consumes 15.6 kg of CO2 per year. Which means that in 3 months of collaboration with One Tree Planted,
65 pieces were sold and as a result 1014kg CO2 will be offset this year.
Let us remind you that the apparel industry accounts for 10% of global carbon emissions
and remains the second largest industrial polluter, second only to oil.
More specifically, every year global emissions from textile production are equivalent to 1.2 billion tonnes of CO2.
.
.
Over 70 million trees are logged every year and turned into fabrics, as rayon, viscose, modal and lyocell.  In addition, we have the problem of synthetic fabrics, which are made of Oil, such as polyester. One polyester shirt has a 5.5kg carbon footprint, compared to just 2.1kg for a cotton shirt.
Not to mention the water used during but also after the production. It is estimated that almost 2,700 liters of water are needed to make just one T-shirt, which is enough water for one person to drink for almost three years.
With such a big waste of natural resources we thought that we could contribute by doing something so simple:

Planting 1 tree for each rental or purchase from our secondhand collection.

So, why joining SHAREaLOOK?
We are not only offsetting the carbon footprint for the items you rent or buy from us, but also the items you have in your wardrobe! Nadine, Patty and Heidi uploaded their rarely worn items on our platform, that means they prolong their life span, they prevent more consumption by offering them to others and they offer a chance to a new tree planting.

Some thoughts to conclude...
.
Our question is:
If SHAREaLOOK succeeded in driving actual impact during a very challenging period, being an early stage startup with limited impact (location, resources), why is it so difficult for bigger companies and brands to do the same or something similar?
That's some food for thought after a month of reviewing and repurposing our business plan. Feel free to give us a thumbs up on instagram or your feedback to our new project. Get in touch with us to start an open discussion!
